7th International Youth Day
The United Nations Volunteers/ United Nations Development Programme with the initiative of United Nations Assosiation of the Philippines is spearheading the preparation for the International Youth Day on August 10-12, 2006, with the Youth Federation for World Peace as the Principal Partner.
On the first day, August 10, a Wreath-laying Ceremony, at 7:30 a.m. at the site of Rizal Monument, Rizal Park, to be followed by the Opening Ceremony at Malacanang Palace and a Youth Conference at the Philippine Convention Center. On the second day, the IYD delegates, together with 300 university students will proceed to Gawad Kalinga Baseco Development Site for their Service Project and Community Immersion. The celebration will culminate in the International Youth Leaders Congress for Global Peace at the Araneta Coliseum. We are also organizing an International Youth Expo to showcase initiatives and service programs from various sectors which are aligned to Development Programs for Youth and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals by 2015. International and local resource speakers have agreed to share their thoughts and successes with our participants.
The theme for the 7th International Youth Day celebration is : " MDG's - UNITE NOW! " UNITE is our acronym for Unity, Nation-Building, Inter-cultural/Inter-generational, Transparency and Empowerment.

Global Youth Service Day in the Philipines .::. April 21-23, 2006

The United Nations Philippines will take part in the annual celebration of the Global Youth Service Day this year where young everyday heroes are encouraged to join the rest of the world for rendering volunteer services to communities.

As the largest volunteering event in the world, it will be an opportunity for young people to participate in this year's event as hundreds of organizing committees composed of schools, faith-based groups, and youth-related organizations will work together to support and achieve the United Nation's Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). This year's celebration aims to inspire the youth that positive social change in the society could be achieve through the synergy, convergence and collaborative efforts of organizations. Activities could be related to any advocacies for ICT, Media and Entertainment, Environment, Health, Entrepreneurship, Education, Peace and Order, Fellowship, Arts and Culture and/or Sports. National MDG Writing Contest

The U.N. Country Team, the Philippine government, the business sector and civil society have taken critical steps that will mainstream the Millennium Development Goals to the country's political, social and cultural milieu. And to step up MDG campaign among the youth, UNDP and UNAP, with the support of the Department of Education, the Commission on Higher Education, the National Youth Commission and the Lions Clubs International MD 301 are launching an Essay Writing Contest with the theme "The Millennium Development Goals - Youth Takes Action!" The theme was based on the 57th annual conference theme of the United Nations DPI-NGO Section held in New York in September, 2004 (Millennium Development Goals, Civil Society Takes Action)
