National UNVs work in their own country and often serve on 'mixed teams' with international UNVs. They are most often recruited to work on community-based development projects with participatory approaches. Projects involving NUNVs are governed by a steering committee of national and international professional staff from UN agencies, government and NGOs.
Most NUNV Specialists will hold a higher degree such as a BA or postgraduate degree with a minimum of five years post-qualification experience. NUNV field workers will hold a BA or a diploma and will have some community-based development work experience in their own country. NUNV receives a monthly allowance of php 25,000.
NUNVs can be a cost-effective, available and culturally-appropriate resource for community-based initiatives. Developing a NUNV programme or including NUNVs in projects is a good way of promoting volunteerism in country. Along with a well-defined sense of contribution and commitment to serving, NUNVs bring their specialized knowledge of their country and culture along with relevant skills and knowledge.
National UNVs are also being recruited to promote national volunteer capacity. This is part of UNV's mandate to promote volunteerism and is part of the International Year for Volunteers IYV 2001 initiative.
The recruitment of national UN volunteers is managed at the country level. Interested and qualified persons should send their comprehensive CV to unvgroup.ph@undp.org.
